A world dominated by geopolitics with Charles Powell

An analysis of the ongoing conflicts, potential conflicts and electoral processes during the year, which will undoubtedly have an impact on economies around the world: from Europe to Latin America and, of course, on the major powers such as the USA, China and India.

This year is beginning with a strong geopolitical tone in view of the sizeable number of elections scheduled in 2024, the growing tension between China and the United States, and the ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, while numerous uncertainties in the economy have been dispelled in recent quarters.

For the first time in history, more than half of the world's population living in countries that regularly hold elections will go to the polls. A total of 70 elections are scheduled in 2024 in countries that are home to 4.2 billion people. This includes key countries and institutions such as the United States, the European parliament, India, Mexico and Brazil.

In a more interconnected, volatile and uncertain world, we will try to decipher how these geopolitical phenomena will affect the economy. We analyze these issues with Charles Powell, who has been Director of the Elcano Royal Institute for International and Strategic Studies since 2012 and has a D.Phil from the University of Oxford.
